The DVR World

I spent the holiday cooking, baking, chopping, peeling, cleaning, talking, Wiiing…and watching TV. The Macy’s Day Parade, of course, and a Mythbusters, and some episodes of Modern Family, Lie to Me and The Middle that were clogging up the DVR.

Holidays tend to be a bridge from past to present to future for me. I remember past Thanksgivings when I was a child when holiday TV was football. On all three major channels. Yes, I did say all three major channels. That was back in the day when the only way to change the channel was to get up, walk over to the TV, and use the rotary channel dial to the desired channel number (which matched the actual channel call number, unbelievably). Which was why I had a few mind blinks when, whenever I got up to baste the turkey, fix a veggie and dip platter, make deviled eggs, or otherwise tend to the Thanksgiving feast, DH paused the Macy’s Day Parade. I didn’t miss a thing. Blink. What? Has TV really gone from a 3 channels to 900, from wait-for-the-commercial-to-fix-the-snack to stop time whenever it suits you?!?

I know I sound like an old fogey, but believe me, I’m not complaining. I like the new choices. I like being able to record my favorite shows and watch them when I want. I just wish my DVR had more memory. Sometimes, DH and I actually have a DVR-reduction TV session — to get the 65% full DVR menu down to 25%. I have been known to say to DH, “We can watch Lie to Me, The Mentalist, Sanctuary, and FlashForward, then you watch the rest and delete them, I don’t have time for them.”

Not to mention that the DVR can only record two programs at a time. Quite a dilemma for DH, who is the empressario of the DVR. He’s been able to manage so far (thanks to the wonders of Free On Demand, where we can catch up with The Office and 30 Rock and he can tune in to Survivor Whereverthehecktheyarethistime).

TV was a lot simpler with only three channels, though. When my dad was watching football, I still had that self-controlled entertainment device known as the book.

Hope your T-day was good, if you’re in the states. If not, I still hope your day was wonderful.

It’s an honor to say ‘Hellooooo!’ to an awesome author! It’s great to hear that your T-day was great, mine was pleasant too. It’s kinda ironic how I’m currently reading the third book in the Salem Witch Tryouts series which started off at a Thanksgiving feast almost like mine.
Oh Prudence…. isn’t she something? Very teen-like. I love your books. They have this “magical” pull.
I can’t wait to see the romance between Daniel Murdoch and Pru! They should literally spend eternity together.
    Oh and a quick question…..
“Will there be a 4-book in the series ????????????????”

    Celiena,

Thanks for the reminder — Pru did have an awesome..not…T-day in She’s a Witch Girl, didn’t she? Probably I shouldn’t confess this, but…I’m on team Samuel myself. Daniel is a sweetie, but if he and Pru settled down for eternity, Daniel would be sure to take off for parts unknown after a century or so.

Everyone always asks about a 4th book! There is not one planned, but you never know for the future.

Thank you sooooo much for replying! I hope to see a 6th and a 7th book in this ‘enchanting’ series. Until then have an extraordinary and very pleasant life!

    …..
I completely get your point about Samuel – such an innocent cutieee!
Of course I can’t argue with the creator, you, but the way I interpret Daniel is different. I think he’s up for the challenge of staying with Pru for period over a century.
We’ll see what path Pru will take soon!

Toodles to a truly ‘charming’ and well creative author!!!!
