I heart Suzanne Collins (despite the fact that her name is similar to my state’s not-so-heartish junior Senator). When I heard the plot of Hunger Games, I had to read it. I loved it. But then I heard that Catching Fire had a cliffhanger ending, so I wasn’t going to read it. Until it jumped into my hands last week and forced me to. Sure, I have a book to finish revising, and a NaNo deadline barreling down on me, but really…
O.M.G. How can Katniss be so likable when she is a total heartless b? Really. Every time I was starting to think I really couldn’t stand her — then she’d do something so sweet, or brave, or funny. And then back to heartless b. Of course, if I had to worry about a mean President whose breath smells like blood, I’d be a little bit grumpy, too. And two utterly heart-worthy boys don’t make it easy on a girl, either.
The ending wasn’t as cliffhangery as I feared. I can wait for the next book…barely. Nothing ever seems to be easy for Katniss, but my fingers are crossed that she at least gets a good night’s sleep in the next book. I like that she’s a reluctant hero because I think I’d be that way, too, in her situation (not that I would last a half a second in her situation, but you know what I mean).
