Nathan Bransford discusses the big publishing news that happened in the past week. What the steeply discounted bestsellers ($10 for new hard covers!) will mean to the pricing structure of books in every format (mass market paperback, trade paperback, and e-book) will take a few months to discover (especially, as Nathan observes, Amazon, WalMart, Target and Sears are taking the hit alone on this discount, but may use it to renegotiate publisher discounts in the future).
Even more interesting, there are several new e-book readers out. The Nook is the one that caught my attention — being able to go into a B&N and preview titles would be heaven. If my local B&N wasn’t an hour and a half from my house. I’m a Borders girl (15 minutes away and next to my favorite Starbucks). So, Borders — get cracking on your version of the Kindle/Nook. I suggest you call it The Chinook. But that’s just me.

My friend and I were recently discussing about how involved with technology our daily lives have become. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.
I don’t mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside… I just hope that as the price of memory decreases, the possibility of transferring our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It’s one of the things I really wish I could experience in my lifetime.
